A Framework for Modeling Rock Glaciers and Permafrost at the Basin‐Scale in High Alpine Catchments

نویسندگان

چکیده

Since rock glaciers are believed to be more resilient climate change, water stores therein may become important reservoirs in future, particular dry regions, which currently rely on glacial runoff. In order estimate and evaluate the future runoff potential from permafrost glaciers, distributed models suitable for high Alpine catchments needed. An extension Glacier Evolution Runoff Model (GERM) include is presented here, compared established one dimensional (1D) physics-based model SNOWPACK. The new component introduced GERM treats as discreet depth layers a 1D column all grid cells, have bulk thermal properties calculated their constituents (ice, water, air, solid component). temperature evolution computed using heat conduction latent exchanges, modified by ventilation effects. Finally, we infer degradation. Ground variations both borehole measurements at three sites similar performances found. Differences between present amplitude of seasonal ground variations, with SNOWPACK having tendency slightly overestimate them, while underestimates them.

Rock glaciers in crystalline catchments: Hidden permafrost‐related threats to alpine headwater lakes

A global warming-induced transition from glacial to periglacial processes has been identified in mountainous regions around the world. Degrading permafrost in pristine periglacial environments can produce acid rock drainage (ARD) and cause severe ecological damage in areas underlain by sulfide-bearing bedrock. Limnological and paleolimnological approaches were used to assess and compare ARDs ge...

Evolution of rock glaciers and alpine glaciers: A model–model approach

The effects of horizontal stress transmission on the transient evolution of non-linear viscous bodies having aspects ratios similar to active alpine rock glaciers is investigated. This is done through a comparison between a shallow-ice model, which predicts material flux to be a local function of thickness and slope, and a finite-element model, which solves the full Stokes problem. For length-t...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...
